Y: The Last Man, written by Brian K. Vaughn, is a series about Yorick Brown, who is the only man to survive a mysterious plague that caused the simultaneous death of every male mammal. He travels with a mysterious agent sworn to protect him and a brilliant geneticist in search of the answers as to why he is the last man on earth. Oh, and he has a pet monkey too. The story touches on the collapse of infrastructure, women coping with the loss of men, the knowledge that humanity is doomed to extinction, and even the value of male impersonators in post-plague society. The writing is touches on quite a few serious subjects but is also well known for its humor too. Initially, I wasn’t too fond of the story, but I grew fond of it when I recently gave it a second chance. Give it a try and see if Y: The Last Man is for you.
