  • I’ve wanted my own copy of the Complete Calvin and Hobbes since it was announced back in 2005 and I was finally able to score one. At 23 pounds, it’s the heaviest book I’ve ever owned, and in the event of a home invasion robbery, this collection would be an ideal tool to use in self-defense. Fools best recognize.

  • In the spirit of Halloween, I decided to read Neil Gaiman’s Graveyard Book last week. He’s one of my favorite authors, but I usually either love or strongly dislike his work. In the case of the Graveyard Book, I loved it. Written in homage of Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Book, the story is about Nobody Owens who is adopted by a graveyard and its deceased inhabitants when his family is murdered by a mysterious figure. A fun book with adventure, wit and a little bit of heart, the Graveyard Book is something I plan on rereading as often as possible.

“Name the different kinds of people,” said Miss Lupescu. “Now.” Bod thought for a moment. “The living,” he said. “Er. The dead.” He stopped. Then, “…Cats?” he offered, uncertainly.

  • James Jean’s new Process Recess volume 3 came out today. It’s a book collecting his sketches of everyday life. I recommend it for anyone interested in his art.

  • Picked up a copy of the Art of Up. This book is a visual delight. Full of pre-production sketches, storyboards, models and mockups. There’s a interview with Tim Hauser, author of this book, that can be found here.

  • Visited the Bookman yesterday. They have about a dozen or more aisles of dusty used books for sale. I walked away with a couple of books I wasn’t expecting to find there.

  • I bought a new bookshelf yesterday because I was growing increasingly annoyed with having to dig through cardboard boxes for my belongings. I’ve successfully done two things: I’ve sectioned off my bathroom from the rest of my room, and I’ve come to realize the full extent of my geekiness with all of my graphic novels, comic books, Lego, and assorted figurines prominently displayed. Ugh…

Oh, and I set the shelf up to be double-sided in case I felt like reading Uncanny X-men #248 as I’m brushing my teeth. I also purchased this PS Cabinet.
