The windows were super dirty on my return trip, but it gave the video a dreamy effect. At least that’s the excuse I’m going with…

I can’t imagine living anywhere other than California. My favorite parts of the ride down the coast were all of the surfers in the water waiting for the perfect wave, and those who waved at the train.

Trains!

I mostly enjoyed my first Amtrak experience. There were stretches of the trip where the view wasn’t so great. Seriously, there’s only so much second grade-level graffiti and generic commercial buildings I can stand to see. The line ran adjacent with the ocean at times, and there were stretches where the train ran about 10 yards away from the sand and water.

I think a good way to improve the Amtrak experience for the less scenic moments of a trip is to add animatronic figures similar to Disneyland’s train ride. Amtrak would have to step it up a notch by theming the attractions with a skewed amalgamation of United State’s history; both past, present, and future. How cool would it be to see dinosaurs fighting for women’s suffrage? Just imagine a pack of life-like velociraptors eating all kinds of nefarious misogynists. I could get behind dinosaurs who believe in equality.

San Diego

I rode the Amtrak down to San Diego this morning. The train ran an hour and twenty minutes late. We were asked to transfer to another train due to technical difficulties in Solana Beach. I wasn’t disappointed with being behind schedule, I was bummed when outlaws on horses didn’t come riding up to rob our train. That’s what happens when you ride trains right?

I’m sure Amtrak has a man-instincts style of management. The conductor would proudly announce the estimated time of arrival to the next station, and every time, we would arrive later than originally announced. Overall, I’m thrilled to be riding the train. The ticket cost 48 dollars, or about 20 dollars cheaper than driving when considering fuel costs alone.

What is with all of the homeless dudes in Downtown San Diego? I think I’ve seen more in one square mile here today than all of Hollywood a couple days ago.

I’m about to walk a few blocks to the movies. Hopefully, I won’t get stabbed by hobos, or robbed by outlaws on horses.

California High-Speed Trains: Visual Tour

Quit teasing me! I’d love to be able to take high-speed rail to SF or San Diego on a whim.
